Coin set from the Republic of Tajikistan It is not only Tibet in the Himalayas that is referred to as the “roof of the world”. The Pamir Mountains also come under the metaphor. At over 7,000 meters, the Pamirs include some of the highest mountains in the world and are largely located in Tajikistan. In tribute to the native landscape, the Parmis are featured on the country’s national coat of arms. There is an unusual detail about the latter. One half of the wreath of wheat, typical of the former Soviet republics, has been replaced by cotton branches – Tajikistan’s most important agricultural product. The national coat of arms is depicted on all obverses of this Somoni coin set.
