El Salvador 6 coin set (1942-1999)

Colón In 2001, the US Dollar replaced the national currency of El Salvador. This last coin set of the Colón is interesting in several aspects. The designs of the 1 and 5 Centavos coins have not changed since Peso times, prior to 1919. In addition, with a 3 Centavos coin, the set includes an unusual denomination. The obverses feature portraits of Francisco Morazán (1792–1842) and of freedom fighter and “Father of El Salvador” José Matías Delgado (1767–1832). Morazán was president of the Federal Republic of Central America and a supporter of the unity of the Central American states.
