The Polish Zloty and the fall of communism The revolution of 1989 and the end of the Cold War also marked an upheaval for Poland’s currency. This huge, eleven-coin, complete set of the Polish Zloty provides a glimpse into the historic period. The Groszy coins gradually ceased to be issued. With the political changes, the new Republic of Poland added a 50 and 100 Zloty coin in 1990. Unlike the coins from the People’s Republic period, the eagle on the obverses – Poland’s national coat of arms – is depicted with a crown.
